Mbale district team to unlock technology dynamics in agricultural sector through Research centres

In addressing problems related to production and productivity like pests and diseases, poor yields, soil and water management among others, Mbale district local government under production department continues to benchmark in areas lacking technological information, knowledge and skills to prioritize and bridge specialists and farmers to improve and adopt modern farming with sustainable yields.

The National Semi Arid Resources Research Institute (NASARRI) in Serere district under the Agricultural Extension Grant (AEG) unlocks the opportunities through research intensity and crop varieties to farmers in areas of interest.
The anticipated event by the Mbale team was scheduled to interact with researchers and technicians at the institute in portfolios of oil crops, production, livestock, pasture and farm mechanisation.
The district production and marketing officer, Wanakina George Davidson stated the core value of the visiting research institute as a way of strengthening the linkages between farmers, extension workers and research because the farmers need to adopt and adapt the improved technologies and practices, they need information, knowledge and skills.
"And where we are, is the hub for research and development  for improved knowledge, technologies and skills that is impactful to farmers." The district production and marketing officer stressed that during the visit.

"Our farmers in Mbale district don't have enough land to grow sunflower crop however in some areas soya growing has dominated large  spaces with steady progress." The district production and marketing officer emphasised.
National Semi Arid Resources Research Institute (NasaRRI), generates, packages and disseminates appropriate agricultural production technologies and information for improved and sustained integrated crop and natural resources management in partnership with other stakeholders.

Mbale district's participation in its dimensions, is resilient to similar programmes underlying the landscape and emerging trends of women boosting household income and sustainable foods for their families. Several farmers in Mbale district have seemingly integrated their farming culture in a more advanced score, linking to the markets with improved yield but yet to adopt technological advancements through their extension workers with such tenure of expertise.

The Director NaSARRI Dr. Kalule Okello David on call stated that participants should always practice what they have learnt to enable them achieve food security in their families and ensure business sustainability.

Osia Paul, the Research assistant and specialist in groundnut seed spices thanked the Mbale team on behalf of the Director in his absence.
"Farmers should embrace the technology to attain basic yields and sustain the income by practicing a variety of crops including sunflower." He emphasised while closing the sessions
He also urged them to always use the Institute as a reference point for more knowledge and practical experience as well as contact linkage in case they need any service.

Angella AKURUT, The Administrative officer for the Mbale team remarked with applause to the participants in honouring the invite and time to attain skills on the study visit.
“Do not make a mistake to abandon what you have learnt, it is important to put this into real practice and produce food for your families but also sell some for an income,” She acclaimed

NasaRRI is meant to access knowledge and skills to the allayed teams like Mbale district because you identified the challenges and prioritised to achieve through trainings at National Semi Arid Resources and researchers institute. The institute has been in existence for 102 years seating on 1705 acres of land, transforming communities in and out of the region with researched technologies to farmers.
