Social mobilisation actors called for new improved water and Sanitation approach!

During the social mobilisation meeting today at the lukhobo hall, the Community Development Officers and Health assistants together with hand pump mechanics and Scheme attendants were called to review and discuss the performances at sub county levels on water and Sanitation.

Wandera Simon Peter, the district water officer says the anticipated meeting covers for review on performances at the sub county levels where presentation details the status and challenges affecting communities. He highlighted the recommendations as the agitated voices on water and Sanitation.

The department has the mandate to take the participants through the new sanitation improved approach to reflect on water and Sanitation and how best this can benefit all the communities in the Mbale district. He said.
"Refreshing the participants on day to day roles in their respective sub counties for efficiency and effectiveness, is the major objective as far as WASH is concerned."

Wandwasi Moses, a hand mechanic from Busoba sub county says over 24 years of transformative services in communities, the progress is well though some challenges remain a hinge on areas lacking water sources.
"Sometimes we make recommendations at the district level but action doesn't come as suggested, this has continued affecting our people on safe water and Sanitation at large."

Water and Sanitation in Wanale sub county is boosted by gravity water which runs throughout the year from the elegant slopes to harvesting points but facing notable challenges like vandalism of water pipes, failing water levels since it's a Highland area and low pressure on stipy areas to raise the water reach to beneficiaries.
Wachi Sulait addressed the backbone of the mysteries as a lack of positive mindset towards safeguarding water and Sanitation in communities in Wanale sub county.

"Priority to change mindset and stop wrong actors remains a subject of concern, this should be addressed to harmonise efforts to better services in the sub county and across the district too." He said.
Mutonyi Farida, the health assistant for Wanale health centre III while giving a response on safety, says the springs are at risk since the care and maintenance is not up to date compromising the water sources.
She added that in some places where the water sources have water chlorine dispensers are misused though the gravity tap stands remain safe because the chlorine is done at the harvesting points.
"Our community dialogues are aimed at increasing operation and maintenance fees and change from springs to gravity flow scheme." She remarked.
Mutonyi says there should be an opportunity to extend tap stands to areas without water. Her call relies on the feedback and recommendations attributed on performances review for water and Sanitation.
