Research On Women Displaced By Climate Change Begins In Mbale
Five study sub counties in Mbale district local government have been identified as areas of interest on national climate policies and local level implementation. The research focuses on localising national gender and climate policy in Uganda with a partnership from The British Academy in the United Kingdom through Nottingham Trent University, Makerere University and Women international peace centre. These sub counties include Wanale, Busano, Bubyangu, Bungokho and lukhonge.
Among these objectives, there is need to analyse the social, institutional, and structural obstacles preventing women and marginalised groups from participating in climate decision making processes at local and national level.
Uganda is witnessed as the 13th most vulnerable country to impact change reflecting it's harsh effects on women and other marginalised groups.
As a pathway, the research aims at strengthening the capacity of local communities, women's organisations and local government officials to integrate gender perspectives into climate change policies and programmes.
This programme consists of four partially overlapping phases, all of which are designed to be dynamic and respond to the input of stakeholders and participants as the project unfolds.
