INADEQUATE PREPARATION IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILLS TOWARDS PDM ENROLLMENTS.

Nabumali town Wards firing without conceptual business development services under pdm.
Out of the six Wards, three were randomly selected for monitoring by the district PDM core team. Bukuwa, Wamwa and Masikye had been selected for review of first and second phase disbursement of PDM money. While monitoring these Wards, it was noted that both phases had served the beneficiaries with less money than promised.
Wanakina George Davidson, Mbale district production and marketing officer, assured farmers waiting for the remaining balances to put whatever they have received under proper use while they wait to be cleared on the remaining balances.
Most of the enterprises were underway, spotted with entrepreneur gaps in the Wards visited.
Namutosi Beatrice, a poultry farmer specializing in turkeys in bufukhula cell, Wamwa ward, Nabumali TC
It's on record that she bought turkeys but also diversified her enterprise with produce(millet) One would endorse her agro business rather!
Mixed enterprises were spotted at the household, indicating the farmer has capacity of doing better in produce business compared to turkeys and goats.
She also shared fortunate turnover as encouraging, citing additional funding.
The district monitoring team encouraged her to focus more on produce(marketing) where she expressed more expertise and desire.
Wanakina George Davidson, DPMO Mbale District realized there was no conceptual training to farmers in Wamwa ward before the beneficiaries were given money. The beneficiaries selected enterprises they had less exposure on,  making it hard to ascertain whether it would have a life changing impact with money economy at household level.
Wamono Andrew, a piggery farmer, started with two pigs and a cow in the second phase disbursement. Indicating the buys with 140,000/= and 700,000/= respectively.

Having established the project with  good breeds, the farmer was advised to put up a piggery structure so that the shelter caters for all.
Kabole George, a poultry farmer who  received less, claimed he could have done better if the money in the second phase had come all
Kabole says he bought the hens on getting the money and paid half of the fee for the calf he intends to complete with the unpaid balance from PDM.
Even when the selected farmer managed to spend sparingly, Most of the money was domestically used, he reported to the district PDM core team on the visit.

Namutosi Aisha, a rice grower did not  make it, claiming the harvest was poor bringing in low returns, she however says that after realizing bad harvest, the remaining money on her was used for buying bird.
Later, Namutosi said she had adopted another venture of vending bananas to raise some hope since rice failed.
Kuranga Swibu, a poultry farmer started well by buying a cow at 600k and adding local birds on the existing number.
Kuranga is optimistic, the returns are promising since the poultry has multiplied to a capacity he requires the structure.
He shared a deeper business tip of selling local eggs with each going at 1000/= shillings.
Kuranga thinks, if the balance is given in time, this could be of help in terms of putting up a shelter for them.

As the district team continue preach money economy at household level, proper business development segmenting entrepreneurship Should be addressed.
Welishe Sadick, not on camera but a pwd poultry farmer specializing in rabbitatry has a poor shelter, pending for the remaining balance to have it modernized.
His intentions are to widen the breeding and improve household income.

Bisikwa Faridah, the wife to LCII Chairperson in Matsakha cell, Bukuwa Ward Nabumali TC, failed to account for the money citing possibility that the money might have been spent wrongly
The piggery farmer deviated the money from the registered enterprise on the basis of religion.
Even when the enterprise is deviated, the said existing cows were bought before the money was recieved, speculating irregularities during enrollment.
Masette John, an old legendary farmer, posed in excitement revealing to have only spent worthy 200,000/= meant for piggery to buy a pregnant goat which later gave a kid.

He reported to the team that the remaining balance was used at his leisure, "it was a privilege seeing you come, i expect the remaining balance since I got a half of 1 million". Said Masette.

In the same cell, Nakuti Sarah, a piggery farmer lacked a structure yet was a requirement.
She was advised to create shelter and add another female pig.
She says the challenge now is lack of enough money to finish the project. Mayemba Rogers, a hot culture farmer from Watsongole Cell, Bukuwa Ward, received 1M and invested in tomato farming. He spent the money on the items mentioned here in; tomato seeds @ 125,000/-, insecticides and fungicides for pests and disease control, also bought some fertilizers (DAP- 25kgs) that he used during planting.
Tracking his records, indicated that 420,000/- was invested and expects to earn at least 800,000/-
